HOW IMPORTANT IS IT TO LEARN AND UNDERSTAND THE QUR'AN?

 بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

The Messenger of Allah said- "The seeking of knowledge is obligatory for every Muslim." - [Tirmidhi]

وَمِنْهُمْ أُمِّيُّونَ لاَ يَعْلَمُونَ الْكِتَابَ إِلاَّ أَمَانِيَّ وَإِنْ هُمْ إِلاَّ يَظُنُّونَ
"And among them are unlettered ones who do not know the Scripture except in wishful thinking, but they are only assuming." - [Qur'an: Surah Baqarah- verse 78]

Who are those who are unlettered, illiterate in the Sight of Allah? They are those who do not know the book of Allah, the Qur'an. No matter how much knowledge you gain, if you do not know the Book of Allah, then this will be our reality in the Sight of Allah.

He has revealed one book for us to read, for us to understand, for us to remember and for us to follow. If we can read so many other books, if we can have the time to read them, to study and understand them, if we can have the time to read it so many times that the book becomes loose because it has been used so much...Why? It is because we need that book, we consider that book important and that we need it in our lives. Now think for a moment...Don't you think Allah is going to question us about this? Don't you think He is going to ask us if we were bothered to read and learn His book? Think about it, because one day we are going to stand in front of Allah and He is going to question us.

The way we study other texts, do we even consider to study and understand the words of Allah the same way? He sent it especially to us, and we leave it there, just like that on top of our shelves. Maybe we take it out only for Ramadhan, and there it goes back to its place afterwards, covered with dust..Subhanallah! Do you think it is right to treat the Book of Allah that way? How many times in a day do we pick up our phones and keep checking it minute after minute? How many times have we re-read books because we love what is in it? Think about it...

There are those who cannot live a day without listening to music, little in number are those who cannot live a day without reciting from the Book of Allah, from learning it. May Allah make us among those who learn and understand His book!

The real illiterate is the one who does not understand the Book of Allah, even if he knows how to recite it. Recitation is not knowledge, actual knowledge is understanding . I am not saying Recitation is not important, no..recitation is extremely important..it is the first step to learning but is not the final step..

Get to know the Book of Allah better than you know other books. We know about other books so well, for one moment think about the Book of Allah as well, because it is His words and His words are not like any other word, the more you learn it, the more it will amaze you and the more it will get you closer to Him.

After reading this, if you are interested in learning the Tafseer of the Qur'an, then you can listen to it here:

https://www.alhudapk.com/audio/category-1/al-qur-an/translation-and-tafsir/detailed-explanation/english/taimiyyah-zubair/taleem-al-qur-an-taimiyyah-zubair-2012.html#lesson-010-al-baqarah-49-59

It is recorded from Al-Huda Institute conducted my many Ustadhs but in the link I have given, the class is conducted by Ustadh Taimiyyah Zubair. I follow the same lessons and Masha Allah, she is an inspiration. Every day you listen to her talks, it will definitely change you and make you a better person in the Sight of Allah.

Have a firm intention that until death overtakes you, you will strive and continue to learn the Qur'an. Just one more tip, when you are listening to the Tafseer, go gradually, take your time, it may take 4 years, 5 years, but you just continue and let its message change you forever, not only for the moment. :)

I'd really love it for those who are planning to listen to the Tafseer, to leave a comment down below to let me know about it so I can be happy, just as you are. :)
