Know your Lord- Who is Allah? Beautiful explanation
Allāh: The ‘alam (identifying name or title) of the majestic, sole, and true God
_
Allāh is the ‘alam (identifying name or title) of the majestic, sole, and true God. This noun, which is the name of Allāh, applies to none other than Him. He, Most Majestic and High, has other names all of which follow on from His name Allāh. The meaning of the name “Allaah” is the ma’looh (that which is worshipped out of love, magnification, deification, and longing).
.
|Shaykh Muhammad bin Saalih Al-’Uthaymeen rahimahullah|
_
Concerning the name Allāh, Ibn ul-Qayyim said in Midaarij us-Saalikeen:
.
“The name Allāh indicates all of the perfect names and lofty attributes in all three ways of indication since it indicates His Divinity, which indicates affirmation of all the characteristics of divinity for Him along with negation of their opposites for Him. So, the attributes of divinity are the attributes of perfection being free from any likeness with the creation and free of any deficiency or imperfection.”
_
Ibn ul-Qayyim rahimahullaah said:
.
As for the particular virtues of the meaning of this name Allāh then in this regard the most knowledgeable of the creation ﷺ himself said:
.
“I could not praise You enough as You deserve, You are as You have praised Yourself.”
.
|Reported by Muslim from the hadeeth of A’ishah radiyAllaahu `anha|
_
He said, so how could we enumerate the special virtues of the name of the One Who comprises every perfection unrestrictedly and every praise and commendation and every laudation and exaltation and all splendour and all perfection and all glory and all beauty and all good and all eminence and all generosity, excellence and goodness is for Him and is from Him.
_
So, this name Allāh is not mentioned upon a small amount of something except that it causes it to increase. Nor is it mentioned in a state of fear except that it removes it. Nor is it mentioned upon any misfortune except that it relieves it. Nor in any state of anxiety and distress except that it brings relief. Nor upon any state of difficulty except that it brings ease to it. None who is weak resorts to it except that it brings strength to him. Nor anyone in a state of humiliation except that it brings honour to him. Nor anyone in poverty except that he is enriched. Nor anyone who feels estranged and uneasy except that it causes him to feel at ease. Nor is it mentioned by one who has been overcome except that it brings aid and victory for him. Nor by one who is in straitened circumstances except that his difficulty is removed. Nor is it mentioned by a fugitive except that he finds refuge.
_
So, it is the name, meaning Allāh’s name Allāh, it is the name through which distress is removed through which the descent of blessings is sought and through which supplications are answered. Through it slips are corrected, sins are warded away and good deeds are brought closer.
_
It is the name with which the earth and heavens were established and with which the revealed books were sent down and with which the messengers were sent. With it the legislated laws were prescribed, through it the prescribed punishments were established and with it jihaad was prescribed.
_
Through this name the creation will become divided into the fortunate and the wretched. With it the true and tremendous day is established and with it, the scales of justice are set up, the bridge laid down and the Paradise and the Fire established. With it, the Lord of all creation is worshipped and praised, for its right the messengers were sent and it will be asked about in the grave and for it, there will be the resurrection. Dispute is regarding it and judgement is to it and alliance and enmity are for it. Through it those who know it and establish its rights will be the fortunate ones and through it those who are ignorant of it and leave its rights will be the wretched ones.
_
So, it is the reason for creation and command and through it, they are established and confirmed and to it they arrive at a conclusion. So, the creation comes about through it, returns to it and exists because of it. So, there is nothing in creation and no command nor reward and no punishment except that it starts from it and ends with it. That is what brings it about and its reason.
_
O our Lord, You have not created all of this without purpose, free and far removed are You from that. So save us from the punishment of the Fire.
.
- |Qur'an 3:191|

With regard to the name الله Allāh, brief indication of the meaning which is – the One Who is truly venerated and worshipped, the One deserving that He be singled out with all worship because of His perfect attributes of divinity
Who is Allāh?
.
Allāh - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. .
To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? .
He knows what is presently before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. .
His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.
.
|Qur'ān 2:225|

Who is Allāh?
—
Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) described the greatness of Allāh in the most beautiful way:
.
“He is controlling the affairs of all the kingdoms. He commands and prohibits, creates and gives provision, and gives death and gives life. He raises and lowers people’s status, alternates night and day, gives days good and not so good to men by turns, and causes nations to rise and fall, so that one nation vanishes and another emerges.
_
His command and decree are carried out throughout the heavens and on earth, above it and below it, in the oceans and in the air. He has knowledge of all things and knows the number of all things.
_
He hears all voices, and does not mistake one for another; He hears them all, in all the different languages and with all their varied requests and pleas. No voice distracts Him from hearing another, He does not confuse their requests, and He never tires of hearing the pleas of those in need.
_
He sees all that is visible, even the walk of a black ant across a solid rock in the darkest night.
The unseen is visible to Him, and secrets are known to Him Whosoever is in the heavens and on earth begs of Him (its needs from Him).
_
Every day He has a matter to bring forth such as giving honour to some, disgrace to some, life to some, death to some, etc.(The Quran 55:29 interpretation of the meaning).
_
He forgives sins, eases worries, relieves distress, helps the defeated person back on his feet, makes the poor rich, guides the one who is astray and confused, fulfils the needs of the desperate, feeds the hungry, clothes the naked, conceals faults, and calms fears.
_
He raises the status of some and lowers the status of others. Even if all the inhabitants of heaven and earth, the first and the last of them, mankind and jinn alike, were to be as pious as the most pious among them, this would not increase His sovereignty in the slightest; if they all, the first and the last of them, mankind and jinn alike, were to be as rebellious as the most rebellious among them, this would not decrease His sovereignty in the slightest. If everything in heaven and on earth, the first and the last of them, mankind and jinn, living and dead, animate and inanimate, were to stand in one place and ask of Him, and He were to give them everything that they asked for, this would not decrease what He has by even an atom’s weight.
_
He is the First, before Whom there is nothing, and the Last, after Whom there is nothing. He is the Most deserving of being remembered, the Most deserving of being worshipped, the Most deserving of being thanked.
_
He is the Most Compassionate of kings, the Most Generous of those who are asked. He is the King Who has no partner or associate, the One who has no rival, the Self-Sufficient Master, Who has no son, the Most High, and there is none like unto Him. Everything will perish save His face [Quran 28:88 interpretation of the meaning], and everything will vanish except His sovereignty. He will not be obeyed except by His permission, and He will not be disobeyed except with His knowledge.
_
He is obeyed, so He shows His appreciation, and He is disobeyed, so he forgives. Every punishment on His part is justice, and every blessing from Him is a favour. He is the closest of witnesses and the nearest of protectors. He seizes people by their forelocks, records their deeds and decrees the appointed time for all things.
_
Hearts conceal nothing from Him, for secrets are known to Him. His gift is a word and His punishment is a word: Verily, His Command, when He intends a thing, is only that He says to it, Be! and it is.
